Further Study on Who God Is

The Bible declares that God is the Creator of all things, and not the creation itself. To say that the creation (trees, animals, mountains, rivers, seas, sun, moon, stars, man, woman, etc.) is divine or god, is idolatry and blasphemy against God, the Creator (Exod. 20:1-6). God is not a tree (or object, place, living thing, dead thing, or person). God created the trees and everything else in the heavens and the earth. To say that the earth is our “mother” as some do, is, therefore, to sin against the “Father of our spirits” (Heb. 12:9) who is the true Creator and heavenly Father (Matt. 6:9). “Mother earth” and “mother nature,” as some speak of the creation and events of nature, have no place in the vocabulary of those who reverence God and understand the truth about our Creator.

God created us and placed us upon the earth for His glory and praise (Gen. 1; Ps. 100:1- 5). But, man sinned and rebelled against God (Gen. 3). Sin is transgression against God’s law which is His will for mankind as expressed in His holy word, the Bible (1 John 3:4; Isa. 24:5; Jer. 9:13). Sin separates us from the fellowship and blessings of God (Isa. 59:1-2). All have sinned and the wages of sin is death or separation from God (Rom. 3:23; 6:23). However, God in His great love, mercy, and grace (John 3:16) has provided a means for our reconciliation to Him. It is through this great sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, that we may be cleansed from sin and be in fellowship with God (Rev. 1:5; 1 John 1:7).

In God’s own time, He will bring all things upon this earth to a complete termination, and all will stand before the throne of eternal judgment (Rom. 14:11-12; Rev. 20:11-15). That will be an awesome occasion, and all need to be ready for that tremendous event.

This is but a brief overview of God and His great scheme of redemption, or plan of salvation, for mankind. To learn more, please request the free Bible Correspondence Course that is offered on this site.

Further Study on Who Christ Is

The Bible clearly sets forth Jesus as the divine, eternal, Son of the Living God. Christ is a member of the Godhead and was involved in the creation of the universe with the Father and the Holy Spirit (Gen. 1). When man sinned against God by violating His word, God set in motion the divine plan to send Jesus Christ into the world to provide salvation for those willing to accept Him as Lord and Savior (Gal. 4:4-5; Eph. 1:10; 2 Tim. 1:8-10; Tit. 1:2-3; 2:11-14; 1 Tim. 2:3-6; 1 Pet. 1:18-21). There is no other avenue, or way of deliverance from our guilt of sin, than through the Lord Jesus Christ and His gospel (John 14:1-6; Acts 4:12; 1 Cor. 8:5-6; Rom. 1:16- 17; 2 Thess. 1:7-9). As we have seen in the passages already given, Jesus is the Head of the church, which is His body of redeemed people. He is the only Head of the church of the New Testament. There is no other head, as far as the inspired Word of God, the Bible, is concerned. Jesus is to be acknowledged by all who wish to please the Father. We can confess Him in this life to our salvation (Rom. 10:9-10), or we will be forced to confess Him at the judgment to our damnation (Phil. 2:5-11). This is a serious choice, indeed, for each of us to make. Choose carefully!

When Jesus comes again (Acts 1:9-11), the dead will be raised (John 5:28-29) and all will be judged (2 Cor. 5:10). Thus, all are accountable to God and will either receive an eternal reward or suffer eternal punishment in the last day (Matt. 25:46; John 6:44-45; 12:48). It would be wise for each of us to carefully consider, in the light of God’s Word, just what our relationship is with the Lord, and make our calling and election sure (2 Pet. 1:10-11).

Further Study on Who the Holy Spirit Is

As we have read in the previous verses, the Holy Spirit is not some force, power, or inanimate influence, but is a divine personality and member of the Godhead. Further evidence of the Spirit’s personality is seen in that He can be grieved by the misbehavior of those who would claim to be God’s people (Ephesians 4:30; Cf. Psalms 78:40-41). The children of Israel grieved God in the wilderness, and God’s people can grieve the Spirit of God today when sin is committed. Also, in the previous outline, the Scriptures mention some of the work of the Holy Spirit in revealing the mind of God and, therefore, indicating His divine nature and membership in the Godhead. The role of the Holy Spirit in the creation clearly reveals His divine power and attributes of deity.

The previous outline pointed to several Scriptures that reveal the work of the Holy Spirit in giving us the inspired Word of God, the Bible. God spoke and revealed His divine will by means of the Holy Spirit, who inspired the various men of God as they wrote down the holy Word for all time. In giving us the Bible, the Holy Spirit enabled apostles, prophets (and others with spiritual gifts), to perform miracles, signs, and wonders in order to confirm the message as truly being from God, and not the word of mere men.

Further Study on What the Church Is

As these Scriptures make clear, the church is made up of the saved, redeemed people all over the world. These saved and sanctified children of God make up the “one body” or the one church. In the New Testament there was not a church or body of redeemed Gentiles and then another separate church or body of redeemed Jews. As the passages in Ephesians 2 make clear, the saved Jews and the saved Gentiles made up the “one body” of redeemed people – and this “one body” is the one church. There were not “churches” in the New Testament. There is but one church revealed in the Bible, that constitutes the total number of the saved.

As we also saw in the passages given, there were local fellowships of the saved that came together in various places. These local bodies of Christians were also called churches (Revelation 1:4, 10-11). Thus, the work “church” is used in these two senses in the Bible. Namely, the church in the universal sense that takes in all of the redeemed worldwide, and the church in the local sense that refers to a church in a certain locality. The context of a passage, with careful study, will determine the sense in which the word is used.

The church is to maintain moral and doctrinal purity before the Lord and the world around us. The church is to “worship the Father in spirit and in truth.” Gospel preaching is an important part of the church’s responsibility in edifying or building up the saints, and bringing lost souls to Christ. There are other good works that the Bible sets forth as well for the church.

This is but a brief overview of the Lord’s church. There is much, much more that the Bible teaches concerning the church. To learn more, please begin the learning process by requesting the free Bible Correspondence Course that is offered on this site.

Further Study on What Judgment Is

The Bible (in the verses previously given) clearly sets forth the warning that there will be a final and eternal judgment for all mankind. This judgment will take place at a time of the Lord’s own choosing. No one knows the day or the hour when this will happen. The emphasis in the Bible is not on “time setting” but on “soul preparation” for that “great day” of judgment before the Lord (Jude 6).

God will judge the world in righteousness through Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The Bible will be the standard by which all will be judged. Our words, thoughts, and deeds will be held to account (Matthew 12:36-37; 2 Corinthians 5:10). Peter tells us that we must “hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto” us at the “revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 1:13). Therefore, none of us will be saved apart from the grace of God. But we must not abuse God’s grace, or take His grace for granted (Romans 6:1-2). The judgment will be final, and there will be no appeal to a “higher” court. God will have the last and final word concerning our destiny.

It is vital that you be ready for the judgment by obeying the gospel of Christ and living close to the Lord daily. All other goals or plans that you may make are secondary to the pressing need to be in a right relationship with God. This is because of eternity. Things of this life (thought they may be important) are temporary and will all pass away one day. Also, if the Lord tarries, we will all eventually die and leave it all behind. But our relationship with God is something that reaches beyond this world and the grave. We need to remember this, and act accordingly.

In view of an eternal judgment, are you ready? What is your relationship with Jesus Christ?
