What is the Bible?


1. The Bible is a Book of 66 Books. There are 39 Books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.

2. The Bible is the inspired, living Word of the living God. 2 Peter 1:20-21; 1 Corinthians 2:9-13; 2 Timothy 3:16-17.

3. The Bible was not only given to us by the inspiration of God, but has been preserved through time by the hand of God (His mighty providence). His inspired word will never pass away. Matthew 24:35; 1 Peter 1:22-25; Jude 3.

4. God’s word, the Bible, is the divine standard, the truth, by which we must live in order to please God and avoid sin. Psalm 119:9, 11, 105; John 8:31-32; 17:17; 2 John 4; 3 John 3-4; 1 John 3:4.

5. The Bible is true, infallible, and complete. Psalm 19:7-9; 33:4; John 16:13; 17:17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:3; Jude 3.

6. We are warned not to add to or to take away from God’s word, the Bible. Deuteronomy 4:2; Proverbs 30:5-6; Revelation 22:17-18; Cf. Galatians 1:6-9; 2 John 9-11.

7. All preaching and teaching of the gospel must be based upon the Word of God. Isaiah 8:20; Jonah 3:1-3; 2 Timothy 4:1-5; 1 Peter 4:11.

8. We will be judged by the Word of God. John 12:48; Acts 17:30-31; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9.
